Purpose of the Bill

The bill aims to ensure voters are adequately informed about changes in their polling place locations by requiring specific notice practices when polling places are relocated.

Main Provisions

• Notification to Households: If a polling place location is changed, the governing body responsible must send a mailed notice to every affected household with at least one registered voter, informing them of the new polling place at least 25 days before the next election. This notice must not be forwardable to ensure that it reaches its intended recipient.

• Notice at Closed Polling Places: A notice must be posted at any closed polling place in large print, clearly indicating the new location. This notice should be in a conspicuous place, and if practical, visible to voters using motor vehicle voting options.

• Multiple Languages: The notice must be provided in all required languages for the precinct, in accordance with section 204B.295.

• Duration of Notice Posting: This posting requirement must continue for every primary and general election until a presidential election occurs or redistricting takes place.
