• AED Cabinet Features: The installed AED units must include devices connected for quick rescues, five years of smart monitoring, full maintenance, and necessary accessories. They are required to meet public access AED standards as per Minnesota Statutes.
• Grant Recipient Requirements:
  • AED units must be placed outdoors or within indoor facilities that are accessible to the public at all times.
  • Local, state, or federal agencies overseeing the land must approve the placement of these AED units.
  • The recipient must maintain and operate the AED for five years without further state or local funding.
  • The AED units must withstand local weather and temperature conditions to ensure reliability.
• Application and Reporting:
  • Applications from school districts for grants begin October 1, 2025.
  • By October 1, 2026, a report will be produced detailing grant distributions, fund allocations per district, and the number of AED units installed.

Significant Changes to Existing Law

The bill does not amend existing laws but introduces a new funded initiative to increase the availability and monitoring of AEDs in public school districts through a one-time state appropriation.
