This bill proposes an amendment to Minnesota Statutes 2024, Section 624.714, Subdivision 7a, regarding the responsibilities of permit-to-carry holders. Specifically, it requires permit holders to notify the issuing sheriff within 30 days after changing their legal name or permanent address, or if their permit card is lost or destroyed.

Failure to provide this notification would be considered a petty misdemeanor, with a maximum fine of $25 for a first offense. However, a firearm carried in violation of this requirement would not be subject to forfeiture.

Additionally, permit holders can obtain a replacement permit card by paying a $10 fee to the sheriff. Requests for a replacement card must be submitted on a standardized application, and except for name or address changes, the request must include a notarized statement confirming that the original permit card was lost or destroyed.
