Purpose of the Bill

Main Provisions

• The bill proposes that the Legislative Coordinating Commission (LCC) will have the responsibility to oversee and coordinate all joint legislative studies mandated by the legislature.
• Regular progress reports on these studies may be required to be submitted to the commission and relevant committees in both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
• The funding for all joint legislative studies will generally be allocated to the LCC, except when such studies are specifically designated to an existing legislative office or commission.

Significant Changes to Existing Law

• The bill allows the LCC to delegate responsibility and funding for a joint legislative study to a staff office within the House or Senate, a legislative commission, a joint legislative committee or office, or a state agency.
• The responsible entity can further contract with other agents to assist in conducting the study, providing more flexibility in how studies are executed.
