Purpose

To fund improvements for the Duluth North Shore Sanitary District by providing a grant paid from state bond proceeds. The goal is to design and build projects that reduce inflow and infiltration in the sanitary collection system, thereby lowering the risk of sanitary sewer overflows and pollution to Lake Superior.

Main Provisions

• Subd.1 – Appropriation: 958,000 is appropriated from the bond proceeds fund to the commissioner of employment and economic development to grant the Duluth North Shore Sanitary District money to design, engineer, and construct improvements aimed at reducing inflow and infiltration (I/I) in the sanitary collection system. The project includes, but is not limited to:
  • sewer lining
  • pipe replacement or rehabilitation

  • flow monitoring
  • related collection system improvements
