The legislative bill SF No. 513 aims to create an Office of Gun Violence Prevention within Minnesota's Department of Health. This new office will be overseen by a director and staff, whose main responsibilities will include reducing gun violence and its associated traumas, conducting and supporting research on gun violence, collecting and reporting data on gun-related incidents in Minnesota, creating public health campaigns, supporting victims of gun violence, and building partnerships to fight gun violence at various levels. The office will work in coordination with the Department of Public Safety and other stakeholders and will also provide annual reports on its activities to the legislature. Funding for this new office is proposed for fiscal years 2026 and 2027.
