This bill proposes a ban on the sale, manufacture, and use of certain lead fishing tackle in Minnesota. Specifically:

• It defines "jigs" as weighted hooks but excludes other lead fishing-related items such as fishing lines, flies, lures, or spoons.
  
• It defines "sinkers" as devices designed to be attached to a fishing line to help it sink but excludes artificial lures, weighted lines, weighted flies, or jig heads.
  
• It prohibits the use of jigs or sinkers containing lead if they weigh one ounce or less or measure 2.5 inches or less in length.
  

The bill is intended to protect the environment and wildlife from lead contamination. It has been referred to the Committee on Environment and Natural Resources Finance and Policy for further consideration.
