The bill proposes the creation of the Minnesota Sustainable Foraging Task Force. This task force will be established by the Commissioner of Natural Resources and will aim to develop recommendations for foraging on state lands. These recommendations will seek to balance environmental sustainability with the rights of Minnesotans to forage natural resources.

The task force will consist of various members, including legislators, scientists, representatives from Indigenous communities, public health experts, and members from foraging and conservation organizations. These members will not include registered lobbyists.

The task force will have several responsibilities: 1. Collect and analyze data on how foraging impacts the environment and species. 2. Review current foraging regulations on state lands. 3. Create science-based guidelines for foraging that consider conservation needs and cultural practices. 4. Produce educational materials on sustainable foraging. 5. Engage with the public for feedback. 6. Propose a model that allows foraging permits to be obtained through volunteer work instead of payment.

The task force is required to meet at least monthly and is supported by the Department of Natural Resources. They must submit a final report with their findings and recommendations by December 1, 2026. The task force will dissolve on September 1, 2026, or upon the submission of their report, whichever comes first.
