This bill allows certain public safety employees in Minnesota—including state troopers, commercial vehicle inspectors, and Capitol security officers—to purchase their surplus badges upon retirement or while still employed. The sale price of the badge will be determined based on its fair market value by the commissioner. The bill defines "surplus badges" as those bearing any seal before May 11, 2024, or the badge of a retired employee. It amends Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 299D.03, by adding a new subdivision.
